About ACUTE

ACUTE Innovations® is a privately held, wholly owned subsidiary of Acumed LLC. In 2001, the RibLoc Rib Fracture Plating System known for its U-plate technology was developed by Thomas Ellis, MD., an associate professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), along with Joel Gillard, a mechanical engineer. RibLoc began clinical use in 2005 at OHSU. In 2009, the RibLoc U-shape system was awarded the U.S. Patent No. 7,635,365. Unlike anterior flat plates, the RibLoc system does not rely on fixation into weak rib bone for its strength. Instead, the RibLoc system's screws engage the posterior aspect of the plate and rib to provide added stability.

In 2008, ACUTE expanded it’s portfolio to include the AcuTie® Sternal Closure System and the BioBridge® Resorbable Chest Wall Stabilization Plate. The AcuTie sternal plate and Bioresorbable plate were first clinically used addressing sternal and rib fractures following osteotomies.

ACUTE Innovations' RibLoc system is CE Marked and currently being sold worldwide.
